How I Beat Metabolic Syndrome

I was never formally diagnosed with metabolic syndrome by a doctor.

But, I had all the symptoms.....overweight, borderline diabetic, high blood pressure, poor sleep, etc. I was on blood pressure medication and would have occasional spikes in blood pressure even though I was on medication.

I was a mess. I had a stroke. I was headed down the road of one medication after another.

After the stroke, I accidently lost 50 pounds. I was so busy relearning everything from brushing my teeth to handwriting to swimming, that I simply didn't eat much. I accidently discovered the health benefits of fasting.

But, I leveled off after that 50 pounds and struggled again. I needed to lose 15 - 20 more. I could not.

I began to research my health. My doctor snickered at this idea. She actually mocked me a little when she suggested a treatment protocol and I told her I would do my research and get back to her.

Her ideas were vague and medication-based. I took matters into my own hands.

In a nutshell, here's what I did to beat the symptoms of metabolic syndrome and regain my health:

Fasting: I fast every day. I do not eat after dinner. No more bedtime snacks. I fast completely from dinner to breakfast, which is about 14 hours (6:00 pm to 8:00 am). I drink water only during that time, or unsweetened tea. I often add electrolytes to my water, at least once a day. Sometimes I fast longer but this is a daily minimum. Also, I do not eat between meals. I try not to snack between meals at all. When I was in the hospital from my stroke, they said I was borderline diabetic, but the diet they gave me was full of carbs, sugar and seed oils. This is where my fasting began. I hardly ate at all while in the hospital.

More salt: I completely did away with table salt and only eat salt that has the original minerals in it, like Celtic salt or Redmond's. I usually have a pinch of salt before I drink a glass of water and let it absorb onto my tongue before I drink. This makes sure the sodium gets into my cells, but this is only workable with a mineral salt. I use only salt that has not been processed and has its original minerals. I use table salt only for cleaning.

Eat mostly red meat: Red meat has most of the nutrients you need in your diet and it has good fat. I eat red meat most days, and large portions. I eat chicken and fish a couple times a week. I save all the fat and bones from all meat to use in making bone broth. I am 95% carnivore.

Cut out most sugar: I no longer eat sweets unless they are sugar free. If I bake myself something, I use allulose instead of sugar and use an alternative flour that is low carb.  No refined sugar. I occasionally use some raw, local honey.

More butter: Butter is a healthy fat. I buy organic butter made from the milk of grass fed cows. I use it liberally in my cooking.

Cut out all seed oils: Seed oils are poison. I use avocado oil, extra virgin olive oil, lard, butter or tallow. I never use seed oils like canola or vegetable or similar oils. Vegetable oils are not made from vegetables; they are machine oils that were renamed to sell.

Carnivore diet: I eat 95% carnivore, meaning I eat mostly animal product. I do eat a few carbs in the form of berries and nuts, but I do not eat any processed foods. I am 95% carnivore, which includes eggs and dairy. I occasionally eat sugar free treats which I make at home using allulose instead of sugar. I do have a little Stevia in my morning coffee. I also have about 1/8 cup of orange juice a day with my morning vitamins. My ideal dinner is a 6 oz steak with a beef patty on the side.

Apple Cider Vinegar: I have 2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar a day and only the kind with the "Mother" in it. This is easy to find in the store; it will say "Mother" on the label. I add 2 tablespoons to a glass of Lemoncello sparkling water. It is my daily "mixed drink" and I really love it and look forward to having it.

HIIT workout on a rebounder (mini trampoline): My routine is 10 - 12 minutes per day. HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. I do 30 seconds of a high intensity workout on the rebounder, then do a less intense rest period for 1 minute, where I'm still active on the rebounder, but less intense. I repeat this about 10 times. I love it. Even on days this is hard due to lack of motivation or something, I can do it because it's 30 seconds at a time. It's manageable. Another benefit: it has helped my balance, which was an issue after my stroke.

I also try to do at least 20 squats per day. Squats help with flexibility, balance and strength. A lot of people my age can't do squats and I decided I don't want to lose my ability to do squats.

doTerra's MetaPWR softgels; This is a metabolic blend softgel that helps balance my metabolism. It is not a magic pill and works best with a healthy diet. I take one per day. This has been excellent for my metabolism.

Proper Vitamins and Minerals: Of course, check with your doctor on this. I take quite a few. I take a multi-vitamin for women, Zinc, Magnesium, Selenium, Apple Pectin, Calcium, MK2, Vitamin D3, Vitamin C, a joint health supplement, doTerra's Copaiba, probiotics, doTerra's Terrazyme enzyme  Real salt is also a good source of minerals, as stated before.

All these things are not a diet or temporary measure. They are a complete lifestyle change that I intend to keep up permanently.

Results:

I am off all blood pressure medications.

I am no longer borderline diabetic.

I am now at a healthy weight, but will lose 10 more pounds.

I have much more energy.

I became a morning person. I wake up early with a lot of energy.

I have a much more positive outlook on things.

I do not miss carbs.

Magic Ointment

I think doTERRA's CORRECTX ointment is rather magical. I have nummular eczema. Doctors have given me very expensive creams to use on it, to no avail. I wasted a lot of money doing what doctors told me to do about my eczema.

Now, my eczema is under control. doTERRA's CORRECTX helps keep it under control. It stops the itch when I have a flare up and allows the skin to heal.

I will not be without CORRECTX at any time!

The Oregano Secret - UTI

If you are plagued with UTIs or just have them occasionally, this blog post is for you. I won't beat around the bush or bore you with my own story. I'm sure you have your own story.

Want to stop a UTI in its tracks?

Oregano Oil.

That's it. No trip to the doctor ($$$$$), no prescription ($$$$$).

Oregano Oil.

Make sure your Oregano Oil is pure.

DoTerra makes the purest. It might seem pricey at first, but compare it to your doctor bills and prescription costs and you'll realize you're saving money.

Put a drop of Oregano Oil in a veggie cap (an empty pill capsule made from vegetables) and take that one drop twice a day to clear up a UTI.
Stubborn infection?
Use 2 drops of Oregano Oil twice a day.

This is the answer. I did this, my UTI went away.
I do one drop once a week for prevention and I have not had a UTI for more then 3 years.
Save money, use oils.

Restless Leg - A Solution that WORKS!

Last year, I had a minor stroke that weakened my right side. I've recovered 98% and expect to recover 100% soon. As a result of the stroke, I developed Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS). This was a first for me. I'd heard of Restless Leg Syndrome, but I had never experienced it.

I mentioned it to my doctor and with no hesitation whatsoever, she prescribed a medication, Gababenton, an anti-seizure drug. She said it sometimes may have helped with RLS. I didn't want to take a drug, so I researched oils to use instead.

The best blend I found was:

10 drops wintergreen oil

10 drops cypress oil

10 drops basil oil

Mix these oils together in a 10ml roller bottle and top off with fractionated coconut oil.

Shake to mix.

Apply to the back of your knees whenever restless leg occurs.

Can also be applied to the inside of your elbows if your arms are also restless.

That's it! No drugs and no fear. And it works! My RLS is nearly gone, but when I do feel it coming on, I use the roller bottle and it goes away quickly.

An Answer for an Allergy to Sunscreen

I never knew an allergy to sunscreen could even happen. I had never met anyone who was allergic to sunscreen and I had used it all my adult life and had never had a problem.

That all changed when I went to a conference in Denver, CO. The day before we left for the conference, I had gone boating and used sunscreen as I always had while boating. The next afternoon, we started the 8-hour drive to Denver from our home (at the time) in southern Minnesota. Half way there, my face and arms started to itch very badly and then began to swell.

We stopped at a pharmacy along the way and I picked up some allergy medicine and talked with the pharmacist there. They gave me an over-the-counter allergy medicine and said it should clear up overnight.

It did not. It got much, much worse. At the conference on Monday, my face, neck and arms had ballooned up and itched even worse. By Tuesday morning, my neck began to swell with giant welts that grew up the side of my face.

I was in trouble. I was directed to the conference doctor, who upon examining me and getting my history of sunscreen use, called in a prescription to a strong steroid. He said the welts were starting to form inside my neck and were sure to cut off my breathing by midnight. He also said I should never use sunscreen again until I determine which chemical I had the reaction to. I was scared at that point, but the steroids worked and the swelling was slightly reduced by morning and the itching was starting to clear up.

Going on from there, I had to find a solution because I was getting badly burned and I wasn't about to give up boating.

I did find a solution and it's better than any sunscreen I've ever used....and it's chemical-free! The main sun-blocking ingredient is zinc oxide and since it's a mineral, not a chemical, it does not harm my skin. I tested it and had no reaction.

I took the opportunity to add frankincense to it because frankincense is so incredibly good for skin. I love essential oils for their versatility.

My recipe:

1/2 cup avocado oil
1/4 cup cocoa butter
1/4 cup coconut oil
1/4 cup beeswax
1/4 cup non-nano zinc oxide (found on Amazon)
15 drops frankincense essential oil

Melt all ingredients except frankincense in a double boiler until smooth. Cool slightly. Add frankincense and stir. Pour into desired containers and let set. One batch lasts us all summer.

Happy oiling!

These Oils Have the POWER

Essential oils are powerful. Something you eat regularly can be much more powerful in its essential oil form.

A couple years ago, I started using a blend of oils to help with high blood pressure. You can read all about that here. It worked. The blend, which I used several times a day for massage and in an inhaler, lowered my blood pressure and I was thrilled.

About six months into this regimen, I began to have severe itching on one toe. It was bad. The toe would peel, scab over, then start itching all over again. I went to urgent care and the doctor didn't have a clue, but he gave me a cream to use. It didn't help. Then, it spread....and spread....and spread. Over a period of a couple months, I was covered from head to toe with  round, itchy spots which soon began to ooze and bleed. Some of them grew quite large.

At this point, I went to a dermatologist. She did a biopsy and confirmed I had nummular eczema. She gave me a steroid cream and it worked to a point. It cleared up all but some giant spots on my left leg, my middle finger on my right hand, and the bottoms of my feet. These areas became very stubborn and simply would not clear up. I battled this awful rash for a year and a half.

A few weeks ago, I felt a cold sore coming on, so I used frankincense oil, as I always do, to stop it from completely forming. It seemed to be working as no full cold sore formed. However, when I used my BP oil blend, within 5 minutes, my lips started tingling and itching on the inside. It was so bad I began to bite my lips to stop the itch. I thought it was related to my potential cold sore and it lessened in intensity throughout the day.

Later that night, I put my oil blend on the bottom of my feet and within 10 minutes, my lips were tingling again and began to swell slightly. Hmmm. That's when I realized it wasn't the cold sore. That's when I realized it was likely the cinnamon in the oil blend.

I had used all the other oils in that blend in other ways without having the tingling, but this was the only blend I used the cinnamon in. Since then, I have stopped using cinnamon essential oil and am not using ground cinnamon in my coffee for the time being. And the rash is hardly itching at all and actually starting to heal.

So, this is a warning. Essential oils are powerful so be aware of how they can affect you. I don't think I'm full-on allergic to cinnamon, but I do think cinnamon essential oil is too powerful for my sensitive skin, even when used with other oils and diluted with coconut oil.

I tried a new essential oil blend for my blood pressure and am seeing great results. How great? Take a look at the picture on the right.

This is phenomenal!

My new blend:

In a 10 ml roller bottle, I put the following blend:

10 drops frankincense
8 drops helicrysum
8 drops marjoram
10 drops ylang ylang
8 drops lavender

I topped it off with fractionated coconut oil.
I used the same blend in an inhaler tube which I can use throughout the day, if needed, to keep my blood pressure even.

Lesson learned. Use essential oils, but use them with care.
I know to avoid cinnamon essential oil
now.
